International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women: Adoption of the Diversity Charter and Collaboration with the Equal Opportunities Authority

On November 25th, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women is observed. On this occasion, the Central Bank wishes to honor all victims of violence, both physical and psychological.

Gender-based violence against women constitutes an assertion of power, where the perpetrator imposes their will and strength through various forms of violence, including harassment, psychological manipulation, sexual abuse, physical assault, and exploitation, often culminating in tragically well-known outcomes.

The silence of women regarding the violence they endure remains pervasive, primarily due to fear, shame, societal conditioning, and lack of economic autonomy.

Every form of violence must be recognized, rejected, fought, and reported. At the same time, it is essential to commend those individuals who uphold respect for every person as a core principle in their conduct, serving as role models for younger generations.

It is deemed crucial to enhance awareness-raising initiatives on this issue, promoting the education of new generations so that mutual respect becomes an essential pillar in the creation of a society where every individual is consistently valued and appreciated.

The Central Bank's Board of Directors has adopted the "Charter for Diversity Management" during its meeting on November 10. This initiative, proposed by the Diversity & Inclusion Coordination Committee - an internal body dedicated to promoting equal opportunities and enhancing diversity - aims to foster an inclusive environment for all individuals collaborating with the institution.

By endorsing this Charter, the Central Bank commits to recognizing equality, diversity, and inclusion as guiding principles. These principles are intended to enhance the value of individuals within the institution, fostering a more inclusive workplace culture that better serves citizens and the country.

Recently, the Diversity & Inclusion Coordination Committee provided technical support to the Authority for Equal Opportunities in developing a legislative proposal. This proposal includes provisions for granting subsidized loans to victims of violence, addressing their economic autonomy challenges. The objectives of this legislative initiative are fully aligned with the effective implementation of the Istanbul Convention, to which the Republic of San Marino has been a signatory since 2014.

Please be advised that the San Marino territory maintains an active helpline at 0549 994800, specifically dedicated to victims of violence. Support can also be accessed by writing to centroascoltoantiviolenza@iss.sm. For those in need of immediate assistance, contacting medical emergency services and/or law enforcement is recommended.

""E senza scudi per proteggermi né armi per difendermi

Né caschi per nascondermi o santi a cui rivolgermi

Con solo questa lingua in bocca

E se mi tagli pure questa

Io non mi fermo, scusa

Canto pure a bocca chiusa."
