In May 2023 BCSM and the Bank of Italy have signed a new Memorandum of Understanding on cash services, effective since May 26, 2024, reflecting the cooperative relationship between the two central banks in this area. The agreement replaces the 2019 protocol and establishes a structured information flow from the Central Bank of San Marino (BCSM). It allows for the submission of suspected counterfeit and damaged banknotes to the Bank of Italy, as well as the deposit and withdrawal of banknotes at the Forlì Branch of the Bank of Italy. Additionally, the agreement regulates the submission of statistical reports on the recirculation of banknotes and the euro coins issued by the Republic of San Marino.
