In articles 37 and 38, Law N° 96 of 29 June 2005 charges the Central Bank with managing, governing and supervising the payments system of the Republic of San Marino.
The payments system comprises the payment instruments, the infrastructures, the parties and the provisions required to transfer money from one operator to another. This structure is of vital importance for the correct operation and stability of the economic system.
To facilitate the economic and financial activities, the Central Bank intends to attain goals of public interest when it comes to the security and efficacy of the payments system and to ensure that the San Marinese banking system is as efficient as possible.
The action accomplished by the Central Bank mainly involves monitoring and controlling the payments system, fostering codes of conduct and operating standards, issuing guidelines, recommendations and provisions to establish the supervisory policies and direct the behaviour of the operators.
