On August 7, 2026, the Central Bank of the Republic of San Marino and the National Statistical Office of the Republic of San Marino signed a cooperation agreement on statistical matters.

The Agreement formalizes and consolidates the existing collaborative relationship, strengthening coordination in the development, production, and dissemination of statistics of national interest, in line with the commitments undertaken by the Republic of San Marino at the national, international, and supranational levels.

The statistical surveys covered by this collaboration—including those related to the Balance of Payments, the International Investment Position, and economic activity indicators—are, in fact, of significant importance in the process of integration with the European Union.

In particular, the Agreement identifies the following as key objectives:

  • the optimization of data exchange through the systematic sharing of information flows according to defined criteria and timelines, as well as through forms of mutual assistance;

  • strengtheningoperational efficiency, in accordance with cost-effectiveness criteria and implementation procedures consistent with the principles of necessity, proportionality, and alignment with areas of competence;

  • methodological updating and development, including through the establishment of a Technical Committee on Statistics composed of representatives from the National Statistics Office and the Central Bank.

“The Agreement reaffirms the commitment to strengthening institutional collaboration in an area of particular importance for the country, contributing to the availability of increasingly comprehensive, timely, and integrated statistical information,stated the Director of the National Statistics Office. The Director General of the Central Bank of the Republic of San Marino noted that:“The ongoing synergy enhances the quality of macroeconomic analyses, providing a solid knowledge base for addressing future economic and financial challenges.”

The agreement reaffirms the value of cooperation as a safeguard for the quality of national statistical information, which is a defining element in the Republic’s international relations.
